We recently said farewell to Cecilia Hiemstra who lost her battle with cancer.
Cecilia had been involved with Siphila Sonke for the past few years where she served on the Executive and Fundraising Committees, where her input and enthusiasm was of great value. Cecilia was especially loved by the children in our Kids Club and loved sitting under the trees reading to them, teaching or just chatting
Her generosity knew no bounds including opening her garden at Carmel Farm to raise funds for Siphila Sonke, designing and planting the garden last year in record time. The family has graciously opened
Cecilia’s garden again this year for us. Her support, enthusiasm and tenacity will never be forgotten. Even whilst she was so desperately ill, she would still organise blankets, apples and even cupcakes for the Kids Club to celebrate her birthday with her. On hearing of the water shortage in the informal settlements recently, she was ready to deliver water from the farm and have the children bought to Carmel for a shower!
Cecilia will be sorely missed by all of us at Siphila Sonke. She has left a huge footprint in our hearts and lived up to being the change she wished to see in the world.
