Round and Round the Garden

Round and round the garden!

Round and round the garden like a teddy bear - many of us can remember this seemingly never ending childhood game; a little chubby hand stretched out whilst your fingers made a stepping journey until … “Tickle him under there”!  Gleeful laughter accompanied the request “Again!”

In a very different way this weekend a number of families are doing the again and again thing in their own lock down gardens.  Why would they walk or run 100km each over three days (Monday is Freedom Day – we hope it’s a sign!)  Because all are committed to assist Siphila Sonke as they reach the marginalised of our communities.  The target is to raise R100,000 over the weekend.  That’s a lot of food parcels for the beneficiaries who are in the no-mans-land between applying for a SASSA grant and receiving it maybe two or three months later.

In our little community in the Overberg there are at least 12 NGOs all helping in specific areas.  ASswell as one coordinating team who ensure that gifts are distributed fairly and that duplication is avoided. Personally I have been humbled by the way the people have given of their time, their talent (well done all those who make almost 700 litres of soup daily) and people who give of their treasure.  Given the chance most people certainly are generous!

As our runners and walkers go around and around (and around) you and I can help by visiting https://www.backabuddy.co.za/lockdown-relay4change and perhaps get a buddy to join in too!  Your funds mean that the food parcels which cost R400 each will be handed out to 60 families every three weeks instead of monthly if sufficient funds are raised.  The children in our Kids Club will receive a good meal daily as well as help in catching up on missed school work.

Thank you everyone for making a difference!
