Five reasons why you should visit Elgin Open Gardens

My friend Cindy had recently been widowed and desperately needed a happy day out.  So it was that I experienced my first Open Gardens in Constantia in 2016.  Like happy colourful butterflies the two of us flitted from venue to venue “ooing” and “aahing” at the vast variety of small, medium and large gardens on display. The English country ones cascaded with prolific delicate blooms, whilst the fynbos were hardy, impressive and very African!  A water garden had us mesmerised but a little daunted to work out just how one goes about developing such a landscape?  Overall it was a day etched in my memory; beautiful settings, great friendship and many of the entrance fees went toward worthwhile causes - a total win for all concerned.

This is why we would like to invite you to Elgin Open Gardens on Saturday 26th & Sunday 27th October or on Saturday 2nd & Sunday 3rd November. The topography in this part of the world is simply breath-taking providing a perfect canvas for the delectable gardens on display.  Some such as Keurbos, Fairholme and Fresh Woods will be offering for sale unusual and interesting plants difficult to find elsewhere, such as Japanese maples, rhododendrons and other choice perennials, trees and shrubs.

Siphila Sonke will be serving teas and lunches at Keurbos Nursery Garden and at the Elgin United Church on the Viljoenshoop Rd.  Please pop in and share a drink, a snack or perhaps lunch and a chat with us; we are passionate about our community, proud of the beautiful gardens and sincere in the work that Siphila Sonke carries out.  We would love to meet you as you help us to help others.
